The Word of God Stands Forever

Isaiah 40:6-8

For decades, the church has been a place where people have looked for both spiritual truths and answers to morality. However, we are now living in a Post Christian era. Christianity is now looked down upon, and is labeled as unprogressive, biased and intolerant.  The church is facing open hostility from the culture whenever she stands up for the sanctity of life or for God’s truths on morality and marriage. There is a suppressive culture of political correctness.  Some denominations have compromised with the truths of God’s Word and have lost their spiritual authority. Many laws have been put into effect which are contrary to God’s Word, but God’s Word, the Bible, is still the Final Authority.

The Bible is the most popular book in the world and has been in print for centuries.  Over the centuries, there have been many enemies of God and the Bible.  There are countless stories of people and political regimes that have tried to destroy it, but they have all been unsuccessful, because God’s Word stands forever.  Isaiah 40:6-8 says, “a voice says, “cry out.”  And I said, “what shall I cry?”  “all men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.  The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."

A story of how men tried to destroy God’s Word is found in Jeremiah 36. God had given the prophet Jeremiah a message, or a word, for the people of Judah and Jerusalem. Jeremiah wrote the message on a scroll, and he sent it with his attendant to the people.  It was a word of judgement. Jeremiah hoped that after the people heard the word of God, they would humble themselves and repent.  However, the King at the time, Jehoiakim burnt the scroll with the word of God.  He thought he had destroyed God’s Word, but God told Jeremiah to take another scroll and write the same exact words that were on the first scroll. King Jehoiakim has been dead for centuries, but we still have a record of that story in God’s Word.  “All men are like the grass that withers, and like the flowers that fall, but the Word of God stands forever.”

Joshua 1:8 encourages us to never let God’s Word depart from our mouth. We are to meditate upon it day and night and be careful to do everything written in it.  Then we will be prosperous and successful.  May you be determined in this new upcoming season to meditate and spend more time in the word of God.  May God help us to do so, in Jesus’ name.
