  • The Rainbow: God’s Covenant With Man

The Rainbow: God’s Covenant With Man

In Genesis 9, God made an unconditional divine promise never to destroy all earthly life with a flood again; the covenant “sign” being the rainbow in the sky.  God made the Noahic covenant with righteous Noah (and his descendants) and every living thing on earth-all life that is subject to human jurisdiction.  God has been faithful to His covenant.  All of God’s promises are yes and amen, faithful and true.

The rainbow can also be found above God’s throne.  The rainbow represents God’s glory.  Ezekiel describes the vision he saw of God’s glory in Ezekiel 1:26-28.  It reads, “.... high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man.  I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him.  Like, the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him.”

In Revelation 4:2-3, the Apostle John describes God’s throne in heaven, where he saw the appearance of a rainbow resembling an emerald surrounding the throne.  “At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.  And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian.  A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.” The rainbow represents God’s glory and the covenant that He made with mankind.

Thomas Heffner wrote a mini book called Rainbow, and in it he describes the revelation that God gave him concerning the meaning of the colors of the rainbow.  According to Thomas, the color red represents Jesus’s blood being shed as a propitiatory sacrifice for mankind’s sins. Orange represents the great suffering and fiery trial Jesus endured upon the cross and his  transition from life to death. Yellow, which is the brightest color of the visible light spectrum, represents Jesus’ resurrection to life on the third day.  Green represents Jesus’ new life as he walked the earth in his glorified body in which he would never taste death again.    Blue represents Jesus becoming our High Priest after he ascended into heaven.  The color blue symbolizes priest hood.  And the final color in the rainbow, purple, represents Jesus’ role as KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS

The rainbow has been used as a symbol of diversity in the LGBTQ community.  However, the rainbow represents God’s truth.  It represents God’s glory and the covenant God made with man not to destroy the earth by flood again.  That is the truth from God’s Word that will never change.  Speak truth to the culture.  Be a voice for the gospel.  Wear Scriptures!

  • God is the One to Fear

God is the One to Fear

There is an acronym that describes FEAR as False Evidence Appearing Real.  However, the dictionary defines fear as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or threat.  There are two types of fearOne is godly fear which is the fear of God, and the other is ungodly fear which is the lack of faith in God.

Godly fear is having respect and fear for our Creator and Law giver because He is the King and Supreme Being in all the universe.  Revelation 4:11 says, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”  Psalm 76:7 says, You God alone are to be feared, who can stand before you when you are angry?”  Matthew 10:28 says, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell”.  Isaiah 8:13 also says, “The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, He is the one you are to fear, He is the one you are to dread.”

On the other hand, ungodly fear is the lack of faith in God. It is to be frightened, worried or in doubt of something. Ungodly fear is a lie.  It seeks to paralyze us and prevent us from moving forward in the things of God. Ungodly fear comes upon us when we choose to reject God.  In Deuteronomy 28:15, God warned the Israelites that if they failed to obey Him and follow His commands and decrees, curses will come upon them.  Then verses 64-66 defines some of the curses, “Then the LORD will scatter you among all the nations, from one end of the earth to the other.  There you will worship other gods-gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known.  Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot.  There the LORD will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of life.”  Whenever we fail to trust God, we give in to fear.

When we choose to fear, we exalt the circumstances above GodWhenever we choose fear, instead of faith in God, we regress and go backwards and lose out on what God has for us.  The enemy seeks to paralyze and abort the plans and the purposes of God in our lives.  We see an example of this in the book of Numbers 13, where the Israelites rejected God and instead gave into fear which caused a whole generation to lose out on the promise and blessings of entering the Promised Land.

God had delivered the nation of Israel from Egypt and was taking them to the Promised Land of Canaan.  He told Moses to send 12 spies to spy out the land.  Of the 12, only two came back with a good report, (Joshua and Caleb). They were the only ones who did not reject God and let fear come upon them.  God was very angry with them because they had spread fear and disbelief throughout the whole camp, so He banned that whole generation from going into the Promised Land.  Of that entire generation, only Joshua and Caleb entered the Promised Land.  The others died during their 40 years of living in the wilderness.  Giving into fear will cause us to regress and lose out on our destiny and the blessings of God.

What should we do if we are fearful and worried?  How do we overcome our lack of faith in God?

    • First, we need to confess fear as sin.  Romans 14:23b says everything that does not come from faith is sin.  1 John 1:9 says, “if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us of our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
    • Then we need to seek the LORD and ask Him to deliver us.  Psalm 34:4-6 says, I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.  Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.  This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
    • Next we have to resist fear! Whenever it comes, send it back to the sender.  It is a lie from the devil.  Send it back to him.  Say return to sender and instead meditate and speak God’s truth.  2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us a spirt of fear, but power, love and a sound mind.” Psalm 56:3-4 says, “When I am afraid, I will trust in you.  In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid.  What can mortal man do to me.
    • We also need to establish our heart in faith and trust in God’s Presence, His promises, His power, His protection and love. We need to renew our mind with God’s Word.  In Hebrews 13:5-6, God promises to never leave us or forsake us. 1 John 4:18 says, “there is no fear in love.  But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
    • Never fail to seek godly counsel.  God has provided godly counsel in the body of Christ.

So whenever fear challenges your ability to step out into faith, resist it.  Each time you do, your faith muscles are being strengthened.  Say faith prayers and trust in God.  Do not exalt the circumstances over the LORD and His ability to protect, deliver and provide for you.  Exercise your faith in Him.  Fear says you can’t, but God says you are able.  All is possible to those who believe.

May God help us to resist fear so we can walk in His faith, boldness, courage, strength, and peace in this new season, in Jesus’ name.  Be a voice for the gospel.  Wear Scriptures!

  • The Word of God Stands Forever

The Word of God Stands Forever

    Isaiah 40:6-8

For decades, the church has been a place where people have looked for both spiritual truths and answers to morality. However, we are now living in a Post Christian era. Christianity is now looked down upon, and is labeled as unprogressive, biased and intolerant.  The church is facing open hostility from the culture whenever she stands up for the sanctity of life or for God’s truths on morality and marriage. There is a suppressive culture of political correctness.  Some denominations have compromised with the truths of God’s Word and have lost their spiritual authority. Many laws have been put into effect which are contrary to God’s Word, but God’s Word, the Bible, is still the Final Authority.

The Bible is the most popular book in the world and has been in print for centuries.  Over the centuries, there have been many enemies of God and the Bible.  There are countless stories of people and political regimes that have tried to destroy it, but they have all been unsuccessful, because God’s Word stands forever.  Isaiah 40:6-8 says, “a voice says, “cry out.”  And I said, “what shall I cry?”  “all men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.  The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."

A story of how men tried to destroy God’s Word is found in Jeremiah 36. God had given the prophet Jeremiah a message, or a word, for the people of Judah and Jerusalem. Jeremiah wrote the message on a scroll, and he sent it with his attendant to the people.  It was a word of judgement. Jeremiah hoped that after the people heard the word of God, they would humble themselves and repent.  However, the King at the time, Jehoiakim burnt the scroll with the word of God.  He thought he had destroyed God’s Word, but God told Jeremiah to take another scroll and write the same exact words that were on the first scroll. King Jehoiakim has been dead for centuries, but we still have a record of that story in God’s Word.  “All men are like the grass that withers, and like the flowers that fall, but the Word of God stands forever.”

Joshua 1:8 encourages us to never let God’s Word depart from our mouth. We are to meditate upon it day and night and be careful to do everything written in it.  Then we will be prosperous and successful.  May you be determined in this new upcoming season to meditate and spend more time in the word of God.  May God help us to do so, in Jesus’ name.
